Five tips on planning an outdoor wedding

Outdoor weddings are becoming an increasingly popular choice with couples across the UK, and even with the unpredictability of the British weather it’s still a great option if you aren’t looking for a traditional venue. Having an outdoor wedding gives you a complete blank canvas to live out your wedding dreams. Here are a few top tips from us on planning an outdoor wedding!

Outdoor Wedding

Make sure you have a rain back up plan.

The British weather can be unpredictable, and when it rains it pours, so even if the forecast is looking dry and bright for your big day it’s best to be prepared. Make sure you can do everything inside that you had planned to do outside, can all your decorations be brought inside? What about guest drinks reception, is there enough space for everyone? It’s also not a bad idea to have a handful of umbrellas on standby for you and your guests as well! It’s important that you love your back up plan just as much as your outdoor one, so if it does rain on your big day and you have to adjust a few things, then you’re still happy, and can relax and enjoy the day!

Lighting & Flooring

Think about how your outdoor space will change throughout the day. Why not put up some fairy lights or lanterns to transform your venue as the sun goes down. It’ll provide more atmosphere and allow your guests to spend as much time outside as possible.

If you’re having a marquee wedding think about flooring, grass is obviously the cheapest option, but by having wooden or carpet flooring, it ensures that your guests with heels won’t keep sinking into the ground.

Make a plan with your photographer

Look at planning a meeting with your photographer beforehand to chat through different options for photographs. An outdoor venue means different lighting, and different spaces compared to an indoor venue. So it’s a good idea to have a plan in mind to get the best photographs possible, think about what time and where the sun will be- you don’t want to end up with squinty photos in the bright sunshine! Your photographer will know what's best but it can be nice for you to get an idea of what shots you want taking on the day!

Think about your confetti

There are so many options for confetti, and whatever you choose can make for really special photographs. It may seem like a small decision on your big day, but if you want to have confetti thrown outside make sure it’s biodegradable. A popular choice is dried flowers, they’re both beautiful and won’t harm the environment!

Table Decorations

Think about how your table decorations complement your surroundings. Many outdoor weddings involve a marquee and this is a great opportunity to style your wedding space however you want, whether you want to go bold and bright, or something more subtle that complements the outdoor space you’re in...and obviously not forgetting your Emily’s Lollies wedding favours too!
